SOLIDWORKS Website: 3D Illustrations
My Role:
Being a software company, SOLIDWORKS doesn’t have any physical products, but instead a cloud platform with numerous features and tools.
As a designer, this created a challenge because I had to find a way to illustrate the product features in a compelling way.
After working with the SOLIDWORKS Product Management team to identify what features were important enough to be illustrated, I came up with the concept of 3D composites. This series of 3D composites were created using a process that involved a rendering out a 3D .step file; then compositing that 3D file into an environment using Photoshop; and then the use of adjustment layers, dodging+burning, and color correction techniques to cohesively blend the object into the scene.
